It was a busy day online for Comes A Bright Day last Friday, with Screendaily, Indiewire and the Hollywood Reporter all leading with the headline that we are to have our world premier at the 62nd International Berlin Film Festival in the Generation 14+ section. So a big thanks to those reporters and publications responsible for breaking the story for us.

Simon Aboud, the film’s writer and director, had this to say on behalf of the entire production about the film’s inclusion in Berlin’s official selection –

“We are so happy that the premiere of Comes A Bright Day is going to be at such a prestigious festival. We couldn’t have hoped for a better start for the film.”

We’ll keep you posted of all the dates, times and locations and we’ll also be sure to update you all of proceedings from the red carpet and beyond as and when they happen on the ground while we’re there.

Central Collaboration

This week saw Film’s Cool students collaborate with Masters students from Central School of Speech and Drama to shoot trailers for their horror films. After selecting one of our students’ trailers, Central School’s Senior Lecturer and Acting coach Amanda Brennan hand-picked six of her students to play the roles. The scenes were shot yesterday.

Film’s Cool was set up to bring industry and education together, but also to forge links across all levels of education. Central School’s support and enthusiasm for the project, along with their acting calibre and long line of prestigious alumni students, epitomises the principles of Film’s Cool.

How’s this for a Halloween treat? Joining Christine Blundell at Film’s Cool on Thursday will be Cliff Wallace of Creature FX.

Creature Effects specialise in the manufacture and application of prosthetics, special makeup effects and creatures for film and television. Based in Uxbridge, England, and utilising some of the UK’s finest effects talent, they aim to combine innovative design and practicality to turn film makers’ dreams into reality.

Their filmography and credits are impressive include Brad Pitt’s upcoming Zombie flick World War Z, Warhorse, Clash of the Titans, The Quantum of Solace, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army and so much more. Can’t wait to hear what they have to share with us.

Comes A Bright Day

Comes A Bright Day is an offbeat, blackly comic, coming-of age love-story set during the armed robbery of one of London’s most exclusive jewellers. Two hostages flung together by circumstance discover their true feelings for one another. Sometimes funny, often dark, always captivating and never what you expect.

Cast:

Craig Roberts (Submarine) and Imogen Poots (28 Days Later) play the hostages. Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting) is the thief and revered British character actor Timothy Spall plays the store owner where the heist takes place.

Financing:

Lost Tribe Productions, Matador, private investment. Intandem came aboard and began pre-sales in Cannes, just before shooting began.

Locations:

The film was shot on London locations and at Elstree Studios from 16th May till 11th June 2011.

Production Status:

The film is currently in post-production until the end of November 2011.

The Disappeared

Matthew Ryan is returning home to his London council estate after months spent in a psychiatric unit following the disappearance of his little brother, Tom. Matthew’s father had left him to look after Tom and he’s still racked by feelings of guilt. He studies a recorded news reconstruction of the abduction and hears his brother’s voice calling out to him for help. Not knowing what is real or imagined, he fears he is losing his mind. Ignored by his alcoholic father, Matthew visits a clairvoyant who reveals an ancient curse and a disturbing history of missing children in the area. While he desperately struggles to put the pieces together and find out who, or what, is taking the children, the hauntings and abductions escalate. As Matthew races closer to the chilling truth, he finds himself entering a dark world from which there is no going back…

Corinne Ladeinde Talks About Her New Film

Corrine Ladeinde is studying animation at National Film and Television School. She is the creator of quirky short film Ernesto, about a seven year old boy who is dismayed by the arrested development of his teeth. The film was screened as part of the Film Club at the BFI Film Festival and left the audience with a smile on their faces and a new-found appreciation for their teeth! Film’s Cool can’t wait to greet her with big toothy smiles and discuss her exciting experiences.

Alumni Student Awate comes to Film’s Cool

“Film’s Cool” is a mentoring initiative designed to give the opportunity to use and build on academic skills with the support and experience of industry professionals.

Utilising a network of mentors and education facilities Film’s Cool is designed to promote film education and assist the next generation of film professionals into the next stage of their careers.

Our mission with Film’s Cool is to give students the opportunity to learn from and work with film makers and industry professionals.

We will post videos and reports from each session to keep you close to the action and up to date all the way through until the final pitch.

Acland Burghley’s Oliver Rosen won a London Education Partnership Award in 2010 (Creative Journeys category) for excellent professional practice in curriculum support for arts and design in the London Education Partnership Awards 2010 for “You’re Hired!”, a collaboration with Channel 4 and Media Trust.
